Craving a Cleanse

Cleansing has been a practice for thousands of years. Whether it be for spiritual or physical reasons, many speak highly of it. But my personal thoughts were always… yeeeaaah, that’s not for me.

Deep down, I was terrified by the thought of it. Scared I would pass out from low blood sugar. And honestly, I just love food and I already eat very healthy, so why should I need a cleanse?

This year something shifted and I know exactly why.

Over the last 20 years I have taken very small steps that have lead me to a mostly clean diet. The process was natural. We all hold the truth of eating real food inside of us. It’s just tapping into the mindfulness of it and taking responsibility.

As I have awoken the mind body connection that eating real food, mostly plants, brings me nourishment, vitality and health… my body now craves these foods which makes clean eating a cinch.

Don’t get me wrong… I indulge and enjoy life with no deprivation. I eat pizza, burgers and tacos just like everyone else. But, I am selective about my choices and aim for high quality ingredients, especially when it comes to meat, dairy and eggs; which tastes better and feels better physically and energetically. Sometimes I don’t have a choice and that’s ok too. Balance.

Participating in CSA’s, co-ops and farmers markets over the years have guided my clean eating to become even more defined… and another awakening happened 🌈…. these seasonal foods have the exact qualities and nutrition that we need to help us endure that particular season. This has become the motto of Megan and I’s new adventure, the Simply Seasonal Cooking Show.

The Earth gives us exactly what we need at each time of year. When we eat in a Simply Seasonal way, our bodies balance and heal, so we can thrive all year long. 🌏💫

We launched the first show on Winter solstice and have spent all season learning and teaching the medicinal and energetic value behind eating seasonal foods. This really had me practicing what I preach. Especially since we cook and shop for the show… and then had the privilege to eat the props. 😉

Diving head first into Winter foods forced me to eat a little heavier than I usually do. Winter is a time to build heat and strength. I think for the first time ever, I have accomplished that. I no longer feel depleted. So much so, that one night a few weeks ago I couldn’t sleep. I was fixated on the thought that I needed a cleanse. I could feel Spring coming and I just needed a big detox.

I have never felt this way before. But it proves the theory of Simply Seasonal… I built myself up enough in Winter, so that my body is now actually craving the detox. I have successfully given my body confidence and support through the winter that I will be nourished with plenty of fats, high quality meats, organic dairy, warming soups, broths and stews. My body is ready to release excess toxins, clear the liver and shed any excess weight.

I have completed my winter cycle and now I detox….

But that’s a whole other blog…
